In reply to Does anyone wake up really anxious, posted by rjlockhart on March 13, 2006, at 19:43:13
Yes, it is very common in people who are anxious, depressed. I have horrible depression in the mornings when I wake up. Along with the anxiety. Here is what I read from a reliable source:
Without going into lots of medical jargon, from 3:00 to 4:00 am on the
body has to arouse itself from the self induced coma called sleep. This
requires a chemical and hormonal cascade in the nervous system to
active us for the day.For the "normal" person this happens without unnecessary awareness. If
you have an anxiety disorder, depression or nervous system damage from
psychiatric chemicals this jolt of cortisol and other neurochemicals
can create very uncomfortable symptoms. Benzo receptors that are
healing are unable to control even minimal excitation and this daily
event is like caffeine mainlined. Many people find they feel better later in the evening which gives rise
to night owl behavior that further disrupts the circadian rhythms and
sleep loss.> I have been waking up with adrenaline getting me out of the bed. Its horrible, i dont want to take a sedative after a wake up.
