> It may very well be due to ADHD that you feel more stable on a stimulant. Kids with ADHD can actually suffer from not enough stimulation. I know it seems counter-intuitive. But that's how stimulants help those kids who truly have ADHD. It provides just enough additional stimulation that they can settle down.

I agree. Stimulants are routinely used to calm down people with ADHD (the H does stand for hyperactive, after all). If stimulants make you feel more stable, that would be a strong indication that you suffer from ADHD. And if you do have ADHD, tranquilizers could potentially generate a sense of frustration, as if you were constantly being blocked - so rather than stabilizing you, they might do the reverse. If you haven't been checked for this - by someone truly competent and experienced with adult ADHD - I think it would be worth your while.
