My pdoc has not given me anything to carry for emergencies for hypertensive crises. She said that the literature has been too mixed on what to use and if it's effective. I haven't worried about it, because I've done quite well in following the diet and have only had two "oops" moments when I didn't ask enough questions about ingredients. Fortunately, I only got headaches and my BP didn't spike, just slightly elevated.
Of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't happen to me. I do wear a medic alert bracelet that says I could be having one and why.
