I'm really apprehensive about starting this medication. I've taken ADs before - for many years at a time (Paxil, Serzone, a brief fling with Celexa), but have been off them for a couple of years. I've never been so scared to take a pill as I am right now.
I find that Drs are fond of the term 'activating'. While it may be accurate in terms of the drug's effect, I believe it's used as a euphemism for 'agitating', anxiety-provoking' and 'downright uncomfortable'.
I desperately want to feel better... stronger, but I don't think I can take even a tiny bit more anxiety than I'm already experiencing. My psych's first choice of AD for me is Remeron, but it isn't on my insurance co's formulary and I can't afford to pay for it out of pocket, so she went with Effexor.
Can anyone offer positive experiences with Effexor? Or what it was like to initiate therapy? I'm starting on 37.5mg qd - and then bid, if I tolerate it.
I've got to do *something* to become functional... I'm barely holding it together right now.
Thanks for any insight or input you have to offer.
