Hi Scott, yeah my doctor uses these tests a lot. Honestly though, I don't know how useful they are because they don't take into account how different people's brain have different numbers of receptors, different densities, different responsiveness, different damage, and such. But it does seem like a useful place to start. I mean for example if someone's serotonin level was already elevated, maybe wellbutrin would be better for them than an ssri. Might help narrow down the guessing game, but still not accurate or any guarantee.
The place is called NeuroScience. Tests have to be ordered through a doctor, usually a naturopath (mine is a psychiatrist who works with a naturopath). I think it was about $130. They sell products to correct the conditions. The products are different mixes, some inhibitory, some excitatory, some mixed, and have stuff like 5htp, l-theanine, mucuna, taurine, histadine, acetylcysteine, co-factor vitamins and minerals.
My serotonin is very low. Strange how taking a 5htp supplement sent me into a much deeper depression. I would expect if serotonin was so low then 5htp should have felt good.
The one that worries me is that ultra high glutamate level. I have read that zyprexa and other APs modulate glutamate function. Maybe now that zyprexa is gone, the glutamate has just gone nuts. Could explain the tinnitus too, since a lot of research says glutamate and/or dopamine are the final pathways for tinnitus sounds. Interesting how prozac and zyprexa had my tinnitus very quiet. After stopping them, it is loud and showing no sign of improving.
