In reply to Which is better Sulpiride or Amisulpride?, posted by tgo on April 19, 2006, at 8:13:41
I tend to agree with the other posters on amisulpride. I have tried it a couple times. Never tried sulpiride, but it is supposed to be quite similar.
With amisulpride you get almost instant improvement similar to a stimulant, due to the new surge of dopamine it creates. Then you quickly develop tolerance to that in just a couple days, similar to a stimulant. After about a month, changes in the brain receptors take place that result in calm and peace and good mood. But how long that would continue, I don't know. For me I went about 2 months until the sexual side effects and insomnia got the best of me and I tapered off.
As was already mentioned, if it doesn't work out, coming off of it is real bad. That's because your brain will be full of dopamine. Even if it doesn't help you, it is still full of dopamine. When that dopamine level starts to fall, look out below. You're talking serious desperate uncontrollable crying sobbing despair kind of depression. For me it lasted about 3 days and I was sure I was going to the hospital. Somehow I survived.
Honestly though I have had similar experiences coming off other meds and even herbs too. It is a high risk game. Hopefully you find something that works good enough, keeps working, has decent side effects, and you never have to worry about it. Maybe amisulpride can do that, maybe not. Don't know.
