In reply to Benzos .. a paragraph from a Pschycobabble link, posted by tepiaca on May 6, 2006, at 22:25:46
> "AS TOLERANCE DEVELOPS THE DOSE IS INCREASED TO 3MG/DAY." The ideal dose of clonazepam in the treatment of Social Phobia stays between 3 and 6 mg/day divided in three doses a day, morning, afternoon and bed time.

Yes, but the article you quoted seems to be slightly misinformed or miswritten. "As tolerance rises...." is just not true. Not everyone develops tolerance to any benzodiazepine. Look at Phillipa and how long she has remained on one, or numerous examples. 6mg is a bit high for Klonopin in any setting though I happen to take an equivalent of a benzodiazepine for other reasons. Usually Klonopin is dosed between 1 and 4mg.

That would be habituation, the process that tolerance forms. It is completely true that Xanax has a short half life and if you could gain help by Valium you would be much better off (or Klonopin or anything that at least has a 12 hour half life like Ativan), because sooner or later, tolerance develops in some individuals and Xanax can make that worse with its shorter half life. Longer half life medications tend to be better. But as long as things are going fine, take it until you see a better doctor as I do not know your case.
