In NC I'm pretty sure the doc can sign "Substitution Permitted" meaning you get the generic if one exists. Better yet, if you want your insurance to pay for it, just ask the doc to prescribe "Paroxetine" instead of "Paxil". Paroxetine is the chemical name for the drug that is sold as brand name Paxil.
