I've been on 500mg depakote extended release. It was pretty mild at that dose. I think most of the side effects such as sedation or confusion are mostly at higher doses.

If your doc didn't inform you, it is extremely important with this combo to keep the lamictal dosage cut in half. That's because depakote will double the halflife of lamictal. The risk of rash is increased with the combination, primarily because of depakote increasing the lamictal blood levels if you aren't aware of it. For example, if you were taking depakote and shooting for a goal of 100mg lamictal, then you would actually only take 50mg to hit that goal.
