How long before lithium kicks in

I have read that it takes 1 to 2 weeks for lithium response and then somewhere else I read that it could take up to 6 months or a year? Does anyone have any personal experience. I'm going to use it as an augmentation strategy for atypical depression. Currently on parnate 40 mg's.
