Antidepressants are only the beginning. They are kind of like gateway drugs.
They give you enough of an effect that you stop trying to solve your problems the old fashoned way, and forever try to solve your problems with the next molecule.
The rise in mental illness in my opinion is due to the way that drugs often make the illness more chronic. Everbody is depressed or bipolar these days. Greater recognition of the illness? According to the drug companies everybody meets the critera of a mental illness. So are we recognizing that we are all depressed? I don't know.
Its all a big patch job on the part of the drug idusrtry. Failure is not an option, so everything just gets moulded and shifted around into something new.
I can understand that we need to keep some sincerity, after all some people really are sick.
My experience is that often these medications make you more sick. Even the most recent and modern research offers very contradictory results as to how or if these medications work.
