If it's working, why go off it? There are things you can do -- with your doctor's help -- to mitigate the weight gain. The most common adjunct to control weight gain on these drugs is Topomax. It helps with weight loss, and controls additional gain. It's worth checking into.
The trick apparently is to start low and go slow in titrating up, and it might help to take bicarb with it. It's certainly worth talking to your doctor about it, before you quit something that's working for you.
