HMO Mail order meds save money

Posted by notfred on October 9, 2006, at 21:56:42

Many of the HMO's I have been on in the past do a mail order business where you can get a 90 day supply of meds at a reduced price. I have never used it till recently. It has cut my med bill more than in half. For instance, a 30 day supply of Wellbutrin XL 300 mg is $45 from any pharmacy my plan uses. If I use their mail order system I get a 90 day supply of Wellbutrin XL 300 mg for $30.

I was a little sketchy about having 90 days worth of Atavin, Lunesta, and Provigil (540 C-IV pills) sent by the mail, if these get lost it will be hard to get my doc to replace them. Docs can fax the script in but my pdoc will not do this. So I send the scripts via registered mail, signature required with return receipt. The meds are shipped to me, free, via first class mail. I opted to pay ~$10 and use an overnight carrier and require a signature to deliver.

I take a number of meds, so my monthly cost has gone from ~$300 to ~$100. You can get a refill 60 days into the present refill. They will also fill
a 30 day and 90 day script in the same month if you are converting to the 90 day program or if there is a delay getting your 90 day meds. Docs
write a script for a 90 day supply.
