> Are the meds like anti psychotics and antidepressant ...do they give off a sense of euphoria like xanax or ativan does? I know anti psychotics like seroquel depresses the nervous system...I just dont want to have to put up wtih that sense I had that experience with the ativan and it really did me in....can anyone tell me if they have an the euphoria with any of the medications? I need something to really calm my thoughts ....to make it easier to be more relaxed..but they are going to he hesitant to wha it is that they can use...
No, I can positively say I have no euphoria whatsoever from Seroquel. Lots of sluggishness though.
On the other hand, Zyprexa did act a little bit as a benzodiazepine and a quick acting antidepressant. Unfortunately for me it also gave untolerable tremor.
So, there can be a lift in the first week of some atypical neuroleptics because they typically act rather fast against depression, but if that can be equated to euphoria as the jumpiness people exhibit in the first week of prozac, then that is similar. But not a true benzodiazepine euphoria.
You don't need euphoria to calm your thoughts. Yes, people experience euphoria on Xanax and Ativan if they don't use it very often, but that very euphoria is why it is C-IV in the US.
You could also take a sedating SSRI like Luvox, it is the most sedating of all and if you have racing thoughts it could help.Of course if you're one of those whose racing thoughts are calmed by stimulants, that's a whole different territory I'm not too familiar with.
Alternative medications like Kava may give euphoria in the same way that alcohol does (don't mix the two -- Kava is a liver danger issue for more than just an occasional use.)
But this really shouldn't be about seeking euphoria, than about clearing your thoughts. Seeking euphoria, while we all have downed our share of alcohol, doesn't allow you in the long run to control your own thoughts by yourself. Sure, sometimes we need that Xanax and we have to take it. Medication and therapy are something that should go hand in hand more though in this HMO drived world.-- tidings
