Ritalin, whacky question and reality check?!

Posted by lymom3 on November 7, 2006, at 14:32:36

I have been on the damn medication roller coaster forever it seems like. Saw a new pdoc last week. who wanted me to try Provigil. Current dx is BPII and ADD. I had been taking 60mg per day of Ritalin LA. He wanted me to try 200mg of Provigil and 20mg of Ritalin along with my other meds still. Let me take a step back and say that I have been bone tired for months. I did a few months on Topamax and while that helped greatly with mood swings, that is when my overwhelming fatigue set in. I have since quit taking the Topamax and still find myself very tired. I was fatigued before I started taking the Topamax so I can't say that was the sole reason.

I felt like I was too medicated the first 2 days on Provigil as my heart was pounding. I was still fatigued and felt like it wasn't doing anything. The next couple of days I took no Ritalin, only the Provigil and I seemed to be more awake and not fatigued. I have been having problems with my feet swelling over the last couple of months also and I have no idea why. Nothing has changed as far as eating habits or anything like that. I didn't notice as much swelling lately. Today I thought I'd try the Ritalin again with the Provigil because although I've been more awake my focus and concentration haven't been that great.

Today at about 1pm, boom. I'm nodding off at my desk again and I can feel that my feet and legs are considerably more swollen than they have been the last few days. I guess the Ritalin could make me crash in the afternoon although I generally don't take it until about 8 am; to crash by 1pm seems a little far fetched and I sure have never seen anything about swelling at all. I'm going to try again tomorrow with no Ritalin to continue my experiment, but am I just exceptionally nuts and trying to connect things that aren't related? I need a reality check....

Thanks to everyone,

Lisa
