Officially it is an Alpha 1-adrenergic agonist(also known as a 'engeroic drug') It is believed to increase the receptiveness of the brains alpha-1 receptors to the neurotransmitter noradrenaline, boosting alertness, memory and energy. Clinical trials (a small number) suggest it also has memory-improving and mood brightening effects. Provigal targets very specific regions of the brain believed to regulate 'normal wakefulness.'

As in continuing to take provigil even though it was making me feel like a stoned zombie but discounting my perceptions because of what I 'knew' about the drug.
Not trying to be contrary-but your statement just made my wheels start turning.
Glad I understand paradoxical now-saves me a lot of trouble. :)
