schizoaffective patients sometimes don't need neuroleptics...have you tried lithium, depakote, trileptal, etc. to stabilize your condition? Those would be better long-term than neuroleptics.
Also...if you're not already on a mood-stabilizer, using a mood-stabilizer+neuroleptic sometimes makes both drugs work better, and at lower doses. I'd avoid lithium if you're also going to take a neuroleptic, though.
Personally, I think you should try mood stabilizers--maybe even multi-mood stabilizer combos, like lamictal+lithium--before you go for an antipsychotic, especially clozaril. It helps some cases of treatment resistant schizophrenia, but the side effects are *intense*, so if there are any other options, you might want to look into those first.
