I started Cymbalta a couple of years ago, after some very bad experiences that left me in a state of hysterics regarding anything. As a friend of mine put it, "Right now, if I gave you a Flintstones vitamin, you'd think you were being poisoned." Much as I denied it, he was precisely accurate.
He called me every single day, to tell me I'd survive. Without that, I'm not sure if I'd have stuck it out.
There were no real side effects for me. I had trouble at the beginning with diarrhea, which stopped when I started taking it halfway through breakfast instead of before. Headaches and sweating, which went away pretty quickly -- within a couple of weeks. Insomnia for about the first three days. Beyond that, no problems. And those problems, as I said, went away.
I started at 30mg, and it was fine. I hope my experience helps give you some confidence in starting it. It really is a pretty benign little drug, as far as any of the psych meds go.
Good luck with it.
