I can see how Klonopin could be effective as a scheduled medication to take every day or several times a day, but my experience with Xanax is that is causes tolerance SO quickly to the anxiolytic effects that it is best used as a PRN. Thoughts?

> I have to disagree with the above about xanax as a generalized statement. Individuals react differently. Many do *not* develop tolerance to xanax. I am one. I have been on it for over 25 years and am at 1.75mg., down from 3mg and I am ready to reduce to 1.5 simply because it controls my anxiety extremely well at present ....so I am prescribed xanax monotherapy by the director of outpatient psychiatry at UMass Medical. I bet you can find many other people who take xanax this way. And of course there are many others who develop tolerance quickly and find it is a rollercoaster effect with the shorter half-life. Not me....I can go at least 8 hours between doses. Just my input.
> ValThanks for pointing this out. I was merely relying on the pharmacological half-lives of Xanax as compared to Klonopin but you're right, drug metabolism differences as well as many other factors influence how someone will respond to a medication.
