In reply to People getting worse on antidepressants......, posted by valene on March 14, 2007, at 9:12:45
They refer specifically to 'new drugs'. I wonder if they mean SSRIs etc, or if they are including all antidepressants in this. I would find it a bit scary if that was the case. I've been depressed most of my life and for 13 years tried to get out of it on my own. I've tried everything- therapy, CBT, exercise, I've changed jobs several times, I've even relocated. Nothing has worked for longer than a couple of months; I feel better for a while, and then come crashing down again. I finally accepted I need medication and am currently trying to find something that will work for me (not much luck so far..). If someone told me ADs are unlikely to help, I don't know what I'd be left with. The idea of just being an unhappy person for the rest of my life is just not acceptable... Plenty of people have told me that ADs really helped them find some sort of peace in their lives; they can't all be wrong!
