I've been on tianeptine for two years. In my experience it is excellent for pain associated with depression and also for anxiety. The only side effects I have from it are a slightly dry mouth from time to time and temporary nervousness (but not anxiety) if I increase the dose. I feel more confident on this medication and it has improved my asthma too.

Have you tried tramadol (Ultram)? Although it is indicated in the treatment of pain, it does inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and perhaps norepinephrine, so in theory it should work as an antidepressant and could help you with the codeine withdrawal.

Good luck! :-)
