I know what you mean Philippa. I see some of my friends who just seem to take joy from day to day life and I panic I'll never have that, and panic at the thought that so much of my life has gone by wasted on depression. But then the fact that I have this problem has made me see so much more of the world than most people because of the whole moving issue. I like to think that when I'm old and happy I'll appreciate that. I have to hang on to something... :-)
Fred, Gaiam is an american yoga/pilates/meditation company. They produce quite good instructional videos. Here's teh link if you're interested http://www.gaiam.com/retail/YogaFitness
I must say I'm biased towards the yoga/meditation ones because I think the instructor is gorgeous and he sits half naked in the sand most of the time ;-). I love the idea of meditation, but in practice I just cannot manage it- I cannot quiet my mind no matter how much I try, and meditation sessions always seem to end up as torture sessions. I've only ever tried self-coaching though, I keep thinking I should try a proper course. A friend of mine who the most contagiously happy and bubbly person I know meditates regularly. She says she used to have mood issues before she discovered meditation, although I suspect her view of what would constitute mood issues is very different from mine or yours... Still, it clearly helps her stay in shape, mentally speaking .
