Your docs statement about "one anti dep at a time" is somewhat overcautious, but in this case he is right. Combining an SSRI (Zoloft) with an MAOI (Parnate) may cause serotonin syndrome which is very dangerous, sometimes even fatal. Furthermore Parnate requires that you stick to MAOI diet.
If you tend to oversleep and have trouble staying awake during the day it strongly suggests some noradrenergic (=norepinephrine) problem.
Some people benefit from Modafinil or Adrafinil (very similar apart from the price). They are fairly weak stimulants with few sideeffects and no abuse potential.
I have seen one pdoc advocating Nortriptyline (a tricyclic) combines with Zoloft as his favorite treatment. However tricyclics tend to have bad sideeffects.

Reboxetine (edronax) is certainly stimulating and activating but does have some sideeffects. I do not find them too bad as long as I stick to a low dose (2 x 2 mg/day). Reboxetine is approved for treatment of depression and panic attacks. It also reduces stress and rejection sensitivity. It can be combined with SSRIs.

Strattera is somewhat similar to Reboxetine but I know little about it.
