This has happened to me before with brand name Xanax. The pharmacy mistakenly filled it as generic alprazolam. I noticed it before I left, since the co-pay was different. I pointed it out to the tech and talked to the pharmacist. They didn't carry brand, but called around to find a store that did. I gave back the bottle. They gave me back the original paper script. It was no trouble on my part at all.
Even though you did leave the pharmacy and took the medication home, I don't think this should complicate matters. The pharmacy has the paper script on file and can look up their mistake. All they have to do is take back your bottle and fill the prescription as written. I really don't think this would be a problem. They can't reuse the medication anyhow.
They'll be able to look at the label and identify the pills to see that it was filled as generic, and that is what you are returning.
Even though they will have to do additional paperwork, it's not your problem. In my experience, pharmacies are always very apologetic when they make an error, because they know that certain errors could be costly. Happy customers/patients are much less likely to file a lawsuit. I know your case doesn't warrant such alarm, but they usually are in the habit of quickly fixing problems and keeping that customer satisfied.
