Triazolam (Halcion) is more likely to cause anterograde amnesia than other benzodiazepines and I have heard about the horror stories associated with it, but those are very rare and isolated cases. The FDA would have removed it from the market if it was a hazard to human health. Halcion has never been proven to cause violence.
That said, it should be prescribed with caution and information about these rare side effects explained well to the patient.

The manufacturer designed a new dosage formulation shortly after the high profile cases hit the news, so now there is a 0.125mg tablet in addition to the 0.25mg and 0.5mg tablets.

For most people it is a very safe medication.
