When I was pregnant and off all drugs I had to work really hard to control my anxiety. One day I went to the midwife thinking I was in premature labor (my son had just entered drug rehab and I'd spent the day in the hospital with my daughter, who got a full spine and head MRI). The midwife gave me an herbal mixture called "Smooth Transitions" by Wish Garden herbs. It is three herbs -- Motherwort Leaf, Oatseed & Skullcap leaf. I was quite hesitant, but I knew my current state of anxiety was harmful to my baby. It was the best. One (or maybe two) doses somehow flipped a switch in my brain and I mellowed out for days. A better mellow than any of the pills I'd taken. I bought more, and used it a few more times before I gave birth and it was always a godsend. But oddly, after I gave birth it did not work nearly as well. I'm back on my ADs / Stims / Benzos as-needed and they all work well enough. (I do not mix the herbs with my meds).

My idea is that if the "regular" meds don't work for you, maybe your hormones etc. are in a place where these herbs might work. My experience was that you don't need to take them for weeks to find out. With just three herbs, it wasn't hard for me to do a little research in order to feel like I almost certainly wasn't poisoning myself or my baby. (The company also has a formulation with more herbs designed for anxiety).

Good luck,
Leslie

> Zatar thanks for the post. But how do you relax with benzos that you've taken for 35 years and everyone says I've built tolerance. My pdoc said the anxiety drains my energy. My babblemail is open. But seriously what can I do? You're right the ssri's and snri's dont work for me either. Love Phillipa
