With higher doses of Wellbutrin, it would be a bad idea to break or crush tablets. But if you only want to take 75 mg/day, then you could probably break the tablets in half. Breaking the tablet simply destroys the slow release properties, so it would be the same as taking 75 mg Wellbutrin IR. But the half-life of Wellbutrin is relatively short, so it might be necessary to take 1/4 tablet (37.5 mg) in the morning, and then another 1/4 tablet in the afternoon.
One method would be to crush and dilute a 150 mg tablet in 1 litre of water, and then drink 250 ml in the morning, and another 250 ml in the afternoon. Although I'm not sure how stable the bupropion molecule remains when diluted in water for an extended period of time. The quality of the chemical might be degraded.
In my experience, crushing and diluting a Wellbutrin SR tablet is extremely difficult, by the way. I kind of had the same problem as you back when I used Wellbutrin myself, in that 150 mg/day was too high a dose for me.
