going to endo tomorrow- suggestions?

Posted by olysi79 on October 1, 2007, at 15:08:27

Hi all... a little ramble and need some suggestions...
I've got GAD and OCD. SSRIS work for me, but problem is WEIGHT gain... and not just your garden variety, but rather... wierd weight gain... with red marks up and down my stomach, puffiness,etc... 70lbs to be exact over a 2 year period. I went way down on my zoloft (slow liquid taper) and now only take a small dose with Valium and topamax (augments the valium and I LOVE it). I've been at a low dose of Zoloft now (25 mgs as opposed to 112.5 mgs) for around 2 mos, and am ok... surprisingly ok given all the life changes I have gone through (moved, between jobs, started school, financial stress)!!! went through a bout of depression after being med free for awhile, but it lifted with the low dose.... on the bright side, I've lost like 15lbs of the SSRI weight too. Only problem is that I wake up with morning anxiety... it lasts throughout the day before going away. I am going to have my hormones checked as I know my cortisol is high (had a test done last Spring... even while being on the SSRIS and topamax it was double the highest range in the morning)

I am going to the endocronologist tomorrow to see what they think. Anyone else been down this route? I've sent them my cortisol tests, and want to see what they say. I'm a man, so these marks are pretty unusual, and I look like i took pregnisone (per my over opinionated aunt!)
Wht are your thoughts, should I ask them anything? Any suggestions on cortisol and how I can bring it down? Obviously SSRIs don't work, maybe they're causing the problem.... or maybe it's jsut my stress response.
Thanks
