SSRI plus Effexor

Hi,
Has anyone tried this combination and was it helpful.
Also, what are the risks of having serotonin syndrome with this combination?
The reason I ask is that I'm back on Seroxat and have a feeling it's just having the same effect as before when it stopped working. I feel anhedonic, not really looking forward to anything. Not as low as I can go and I did go when I came off it, not in the depths of despair just feel generally very unhappy and unalive.
