Honestly, if your doctor doesn't want to go the route of stimulants, maybe it's got something to do with a history of abusing stimulants?
If your doctor wants you on a mood stabilizer, maybe that's for a similarly good and just reason?
Mood stabilizers will not leave you a zombie, they will put a cap on those highs you get, which have a way of getting you into trouble. They will help keep you from becoming morose, boosting your antidepressant. Yes, you probably would be giving up those "high" feelings you like, but it might be in favor of a more even keel, GOOD feeling more often.
And then again, there's always therapy as an option.
