Link,

Per SLS's Psych and Related Drugs:

Venlafaxine- (Effexor,Efexor, Trevilor, Vandral): cyclohexanol: SNRI 5HT reuptake inhibition+++; NE reuptake inhibition++; DA reuptake inhibition+

Per pt insert sheet on Effexor XR:

Effexor XR is an extended-release capsule for oral administration that contains venlafaxine hydrochloride, a structurally novel AD. It is designated (R/S)-1 {2-(dimethylamino)-1- (4-methoxyphenlethyl} cyclohexanol hydrochloride or +-1(alpha- dimethy;amino) methyl} p-methoxybenzyl} cyclohexanol hydrochloride and has the empirical formula of C17H27NO2 hydrochloride.

"The mechanism of the AD action of venl. in humans is believed to be assoc. with its potentiation os neurotransmitter activity in the CNS. Preclinical studies have shown that venla. and its active metabolite O-desmethylvenlafaxine (ODV) are POTENT INHIBITORS of neuronal serontonin AND NE reuptake and weak inhib. of DA reuptake. .... In VITRO no significant affinity for muscarinic cholinergic H1 histaminergic or A1 (alpha 1 ?? I assume) adrenergic receptors...

Strattera med guide: non-stimulant med used to treat ADHD in children, teenagers and adults...
..contains Atomoxetine hydrochloride a SELECTIVE NE reuptake inhibitor...

I have taken both. Strattera called a "clean drug" by dr. Both put me to sleep. Don't know what it is NE selective for: lost that page from Scott's SLS med guide.

High blood pressure might occur in either drug. Maybe Strat is beta ?? Just know that Sudafed- OTC pseudoephedrine is an alpha agonist: so can raise blood pressure or heart rate..

Sorry too out of it to doube check post.. Need to recopy Scott's med guide- which I use with pt insert that u have to ASK for at drug store unless it comes with sample meds.. So I can check liver enzymes that are induced or inhibited since drs know nil...i better stop. FDA has drug info sheet if u go to their website.

Also, i got weird "chest pains" w/drawing from Klonopin, Provigil, ....It's a feeling that goes all up my sternum and also feels like my chest muscles are being stretched apart....Not my heart. That just beats weird.....Have read this alot all over; if u drink coffee or take caffeine they say it's worse.... florence

Yeah, there is something strange about venlafaxine. For the supposedly low amount of norepiniephrine reuptake inhibition, I shouldn't have had high blood pressure.
