You don't mention what sorts of doses you're talking about, so it's hard to know how to answer.
One thing I know, though, is that you're not really supposed to *feel* the stimulants. The only effect I had from Concerta was a brightened mood and decreased depression -- I never felt any stimulation, per se. The good news on that was that I never felt any sort of crash when it was wearing off.
If you're thinking that you metabolize them quickly because you can feel their effects wearing off, it's possible that you've been feeling the stimulation, like a "high," which would indicate a higher dose than you really need. That's the first thought I had on reading your post.
For what it's worth, I was on 36mg of Concerta, although not for a terribly long time.
