I get anxiety relief from an atypical AP. I think the reason why it works is two-fold
1) it reduces the amount of ruminative thoughts in my head like "you forgot to... you stupid... you said something dumb...I can't believe I just... etc"
negative self-attributions. blame my medial frontal cortex or something
2) it is sedating and kind of quiets down the mind, offering it sleep and rest during the evening.
