Hi,
The only way I was able to lose weight on Nardil was about 1.5 hours per day of aerobic training plus weight training. At the time I was also on a fairly low carb diet, not bread, no chips, lots of vegetables, and very few sweets. I lost about 75 lbs on this routine. Very hard to maintain though. I imagine you could maintain weight with a half hour of intense aerobics and some light weight training.

Stimulants are a short term solution.

Bupropion is one of the more energizing antidepressants. However, it is not noted for decreasing social anxiety. Tranylcypromine (Parnate) may help with this, but it does not affect GABA and this seems to be the neurotransmitter most involved with social anxiety. Nardil, Marplan and clonazepam all affect GABA.

When you start out on bupropion you have to be very careful with anger management. Almost everyone I've talked to that started on bupropion had an anger or rage reaction. This includes myself and I'm about as mellow as it gets.

IMHO the best meds for social anxiety is Nardil augmented with clonazepam. Some people that can't even leave the house can hold normal conversations while on this combination.

I had a fairly long trial with venlafaxine(Effexor). It worked somewhat on my depression but left me amotivational, similar to the SSRIs.
It also raised my borderline high blood pressure to the point where it was going to have to be medicated. Nardil, on the other hand, lowered my blood preesure between 10 and 20 points. This eliminated the need for a beta blocker or the like.

Good Luck,
Jedi

> Anyone know if there is an effective way to counteract weight gain on Nardil??? I have heard of the combination of nardil and dexedrine, but have also read of adverse reactions to some stimulants while on nardil. Any experiences??

> Also, what would be a good energizing antidepressant for social anxiety - SSRI or related without the dreaded weight gain??? Paxil and celexa are out due to massive weight gain and sedation. Zoloft is out due to massive weight gain. Lexapro seemed to cause anxiety, though I only tried it a couple days. Prozac though weight neutral doesn't seem to do anything for me. Anyone have success or experiences with cymbalta, effexor, or others???
