Xanax/How many days can you take it PRN w/o Dep?

How many days can Xanax be taken without creating dependence. I have 3 stressful work days(Mon, Tues, Thu) each week and wanted to know if I take 0.5-1.0 mgs PRN on each of those days but don't take them on the other 4 days will I create physical dependence.
I know that I used to take it 2 days a week without any dependence. I could skip a week and had no bad effects. I am currently taking a little over 18 mgs of Valium and Xanax PRN but want to taper off the Valium and just use Xanax PRN on those days if possible.
Has anyone else tried this successfully?
