Yes, take it with a LITTLE water (just enough to swollow the pills) just BEFORE you eat. In many people drinking fluids (apart from digestive aids like tea) with a meal can actually make excess acid worse because you're diluting the acid which is trying to digest the food so your stomache simply produces more acid to compensate. And actually adding an acid supplement like betain hydrochloride to a meal often works just as well as an antacid.
