Histamine is excitatory. Besides serving the purpose of response to allergy, it stimulates other neurotransmitters. Benadryl being an antihistamine is blocking that. Maybe it is a clue that for some reason your histamine response is too strong. Maybe an indication of an undiagnosed food intolerance or allergy of some kind.
I have heard here over the years that benadryl has multiple functions other than antihistamine, one of them being a serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
I do not remember the details on how to treat low histamine or high histamine, but the Pfeiffer Institure recognizes both conditions among their leading causes of psychiatric disorders. They raise histamine or lower it with natural supplements.
