Your ulnar nerve is compressed, most likely in the elbow area. Numbness in your pinkie and ring fingers is the classic sign for this. I get it when I'm using my pda for too long and holding it too close to my eyes.

Is your left elbow bent when you are typing? If so, try to arrange your keyboard so that your arms are straighter, and that should take care of it. If the numbness persists even after you've let your arm rest with the elbow straight and arm relaxed, then you might have a more serious problem with that nerve.
