In reply to Re: A new MAOI being tested (Nardil w/o side effec, posted by ace on December 25, 2007, at 23:06:42
Ace, the person who told me was also one of the co-founders of Emsam, which apparently is not going to make it. However, with this pdoc involved, I don't see funding being any problem.
Anyways, surely this med will be different enough from Nardil to warrant its own patent, hence a worthy investment for the pharm industry. The pdoc said it was like "Nardil without all the Nardil side effects." That was probably explaining it in laymen's terms where I would understand. I'm sure it has a lot of differences from Nardil (at least enough to warrant an FDA patent :)
But it is a MAOI. And it is something new. And being a big believer in MAOIs, it does excite me. I hope they continue to dedicate funds and research to MAOIs because they help so many. And it's about time. The pharm industry never should've gotten off the MAOI bandwagon since it has worked so well for so many for so long.
I'll try to find out more on my next visit. Hap New Year.
