In reply to A few Selegiline (l-deprenyl) questions, please., posted by amigan on January 18, 2008, at 10:16:53
I believe the previous posters have been informative. Not much I can add. Selegiline liquid in my experience is smoother yet more powerful than oral. I'm not sure if the dose is 10mg or 15mg, but somewhere within that range is when the serotonin MAOI kicks in. Up until that point it is just working on dopamine and norepinephrine. While the risk of serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome is always present with any drug combination, the risks are probably very low below 10mg if combined with a ssri.
I took 5mg oral deprenyl years ago along with prozac, but only for one week. It was just way too stimulating for me, almost to paranoia.
I'm not sure but I think the MAOI action of deprenyl takes 3 to 5 days to wear off. Last time I tried it, got over agitated, and stopped, it felt like maybe somewhere in the 4 to 6 day window I had returned to baseline. My judge was the orange stain from cigarettes on my finger. Deprenyl caused it to become in one day a very deep orange/brown almost flourescent that you could see even from a distance away. I've noticed other smokers with a stain, but not like this one was! I knew something strange was going on. Anyway, that scary looking stain returned to being a faint whitish/yellow barely noticeable stain about 6 days later. I figured at that time whatever deprenyl had been doing was over.
