Symbyax is a pill with both prozac and zyprexa in it. I have taken those two meds together, but no in the same pill. I liked taking them separately so I could adjust individual doses of each. My best dose was 20mg prozac and 5mg zyprexa.
The two meds generally go well together. They are used for bipolar depression and treatment resistant depression. They tend to cancel out each other's side effects somewhat. For example, prozac commonly causes insomnia, but zyprexa causes good sleep. Prozac often comes with weight loss, but zyprexa increases weight. Prozac is generally activating and zyprexa is calming.
I was on the meds for almost 8 years. During the first weeks I did have side effects that required some endurance to get through. But after that I really had no side effects at all for many years. I could not even tell I was taking anything except that bad depression was gone.
I think this combination should be more popular than it is. But I do prefer to take the meds individually for custom dosing, versus taking them in fixed non-adjustable doses in the same pill.
