My pdoc stopped taking insurance a number of years back, and then a couple of years ago stopped taking all Medicare/Medicaid also. His patients now have to sign a contract acknowledging that he does not participate in the gov't programs and that seeking any type of reimbursement from Medicare is forbidden.
I recently went on a search for a new therapist since my old one retired. I called six different therapists and only one took Medicare. Some didn't take any insurance.
The day is coming when there is a special set of docs for people who can pay everything out of their pocket, and then there is the set of docs for those who have insurance. Why should a doctor put up with managed care payment guidelines if they're good enough to operate a practice without insurance?
