In reply to rivotril or klonopin, posted by paulb on July 11, 2008, at 14:12:55
It's called rivotril in Australia too and it was initially prescribed as an anticonvulsant too for seizures, spasms, restless leg syndrome and epilepsy, etc..........
Now clonazepam can now be prescribed off label for SP, panic and anxiety. It is still very hard to obtain it for these disorders though. Doctors here prefer Valium or Serapax, like Europe does. I have know idea why. Maybe it's because it such a powerful benzo. I don't know.
It's strange how countries differ in their prescribing habits
Mogadon (nitrazepam) is a sleeping pill in most countries, but in others it's only used as an anticonvulsant for epileptics and it's not even available in the US at all.
Another weird example is codeine. We can purchase Panadeine Extra OTC, 15mg codeine/500mg Paracetamol where as it's unheard of in the US. Same with Nurofen Plus 12.8mg codeine/200mg ibuprofen OTC, no forms, just a quick chat with the pharmacist and off you go.
