diverse 5-ht receptor antagonists and depression

Posted by linkadge on July 20, 2008, at 21:34:55

I think it is interesting that certain 5-ht antagonists display antidepressant effects.

For instance, not only does 5-ht2a/c blockade appear to enhance AD effect and/or produce AD effect on its own, so does blockade of other 5-ht receptors such as 5-ht3, 5-ht6, 5-ht7 etc.

With blockade of so many different 5-ht receptors being able to produce AD effect, one wonders how much of the SSRI action is actually counteracting itself.

The 5-ht system is very complex.
