While supplements might help, keep in mind any stimulant will tax /speed up your metabolic processes overall. Most will be relatively resilient to this effect...

anyhow, I noticed for a few years, I would be rather tired after 6,7 PM after working 9-5... doing anything outside of work, or after I got home, was just was beat.

Then I heard someone say something in a movie (who cares if it's true?) that the Dhali Llama told him the secret to maintaining energy throughout the day is to start off with an incredible amount of protein.

Keep in mind I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I would eat a few eggs with cheese, and some orange juice for breakfast each day. And eggs have a decent amount of protein.

Well, it doesn't hurt to experiment. I bought those wheat gluten-based faux "sausage" veggie deli things, and would start my day with about a quarter of one each morning (about 10-12 patties worth) along with a couple of eggs and orange juice.

Sure enough, I was able to do very mundane volunteer work, phone calling folks, 6-9, after a full 9-5 workday.

It worked.

Told my doc this, and he said if one doesn't eat a substantial amount of protein in the morning, the body basically mimics a state of hypoglycemia. Explained that the body can make its own glucose towards the end of the day, provided it digests enough protein to do so early on in the day.

Otherwise, one is simply going on a carbohydrate roller-coaster of energy, one in which most of the glucose is not being metabolized from a protein source. Since the protein-to-glucose conversion process is far more sustained and gradual, it doesn't lead to the same kind of energy crash you're experiencing by the end of the day.

Stimulants speed up metabolic processes, so it's possible one might be capable of not noticing this effect much without them, but they will make you sensitive to the whole process on them.

Ultimately, do not confuse amphetamine as a means to receive energy from. It can only stimulate what's already there--- and so it's only that much more important to really work at your diet.

hope this helps!
