I was on it for years -- it seems to me the daytime drowsiness was quite slow to go -- maybe six weeks?
As others have said, it was the best AD I was ever on, both for effectiveness & low S/E. No longer available in Canada, alas.
I found for me the ideal combo was 300-400 mg nefazodone per day plus 20-30 mg buspirone (10 mg b-tid). Many people don't seem to feel a benefit from buspirone - the effects are quite subtle - for me, it prevented a stress-related reactive depression pattern that was common for me at the time, as well as having an activating and mood elevating effect.
Hang in through the initial drowsy period - I had to cut back to 50 mg at a time for the first few weeks, but it did eventually go away. Take most of your daily dose at night if possible (but not all at night, as it has a fairly short half-life).
