I used to tolerate Remeron -- in fact it improved my very complicated disorder a lot, at the expense of incredible weight gain as I probably also wasn't watching my diet. You have to really cut things.
Second time around for sleep, 15mg became an antidepressant after two weeks and I couldn't sleep again. It didn't work any more. I would have probably had to quickly uptake it. Who knows.
Years ago Effexor was like 50 cups of coffee, it was intolerable eventually. That's when I first tried Ambien, which was psychadelic for one day and never again -- ah, one of my few legal (no, never done anything streetwise) highs.
Cymbalta was a mixed bag -- it took months and months to take effect, I had some sort of epiphany at 80mg and I went up to 120mg. For reasons I wont get into a whole series of things happened and I stopped it.
But these are only my experiences. Everyone is different.
I would say that Cymbalta is probably more gentle than Effexor for people who have anxiety as its 5HT to NE is 6:1 theoretically.
But some people who are calmed by very stimulating things take quite a dose of Effexor.
It all depends on your chemistry
