In reply to Nardil + Parnate Side Effects Compared to SSRI's, posted by jnew12 on November 2, 2008, at 10:40:30
I think the main thing that comes to mind is MAOIs have worse side effects for the first few weeks. But they go away. Right now the only side from tranylcypromine i have is insomnia, which trazodone takes care of nicely. SSRI side effects just stick around.
> Would you says Nardil and Parnate make you more tired than SSRI's.
at first, tranylcypromine made me so wow sleepy by early evening, it was crazy. couple weeks in, i don't have any problem with that AT ALL. The ssris didn't make me tired, but they did make me sluggish. I tried citalopram, fluoxetine, sertraline.

> The SSRI's sure seemed to have a lot of side effects, I think even more so than MAOI's, but there was less reviews for MAOI's so I don't know.so i really prefer MAOI, not least because it actually helps with depression, unlike SSRIs. I guess i don't mind initial side effects (for me, some afternoon tiredness, urinary hesitancy, dizziness, reduced libido) because they go away, so i know i'll be able to live normally after a few weeks. With SSRIs its like a permanent disability (feeling foggy and unmotivated, anorgasmia, as well as a few weeks of urinary hesitency and constipation and anxiety). If i were on an SSRI now, i'd still have side effects. Putting up with some side effects htat probably aren't much worse for a few weeks is so worth it for me.
