I discovered after ten years of failed psychopharmacology that I needed a board certified sleep medicine doctor, in addition to a psychiatrist. I needed this sleep medicine doctor to treat long standing sleep apnea. He also has advised me to cut out caffeine, as caffeine suppressed deep stage sleep which is critical to feeling refreshed upon awakening.
Oftentimes, a psychopharmacologist by themselves wont cut it and most psychiatrists are not sufficiently knowledgeable about sleep disorders to rely on them for this area.
The best option usually is to find a board certified sleep medicine doctor, since sleep apnea is a respiratory disorder, a pulmonary (lung) trained sleep doctor is oftentimes a good bet.
Find a board certified sleep medicine doc in your area and end your treatment resistant mood nightmare.
