The theraputic blood levels for lithium...

Posted by jms600 on November 23, 2008, at 14:47:50

Does anyone know what the therapeutic blood levels are for lithium?

My psychiatrist currently has me on a combination of lithium, amitriptyline and buspirone for severe anxiety, panic disorder and moderate depression. I've become tolerant to Benzos so they are no longer an option (also tried various SSRIs, SNRIs, antipsychotics and anticonvulsants). He won't prescribe MAOIs.

I was on 400mg of lithium carbonate and (when checked) my blood level was 0.31mmol/L.

I've been on the lithium for over 4 weeks now and I haven't felt much in the way of benefit, so my psychiatrist has raised the lithium to 600mg.

Is 0.31mmol/L quite a low level? Is that why I don't feel any relief from the lithium?

Thanks for all your advice.

PS. my amitriptyline dosage is 150mg and buspirone is 40mg.
